Around 3 pm Tuesday, Capt. Alan Allen of York River Charters called the US Coast Guard with a mayday alert after an allision with an underwater object near buoy R22. As his bow took on water, he transferred his fishing passengers to a passing motorboat. Let’s Go Sail arrived on scene to assist. The Virginia Marine Police drove to the stern of Allen’s boat Distraction Attraction and rescued him within seconds of it sinking. A USCG rescue helicopter hovered overhead. Everyone was transported safely to York River Yacht Haven.
